Crafts, Film Screenings, Folk Games, and Cabbage Bean Soup…

The 10th National Assembly of Hungarians came to an end in Ópusztaszer on August 20th. During the four-day anniversary event, participants sought answers to three questions: What is happening in the world? What can be expected? What can and should be done? The focus was on the nation.

Attendees and guest speakers came from all over the Carpathian Basin. This year, Transcarpathia was represented by the NGO Pro Cultura Subcarpathica (PCS). The Egán Ede Vocational Training Center from Nagydobrony also participated in the event.

The civil organization considers it a priority to introduce the culture, traditions, and gastronomy of Transcarpathia to as many people as possible. As a result, they offered craft workshops where, under the guidance of Viktória Papp and Andrea Turóczi, both children and adults could find activities to their liking. Additionally, at the PCS pavilion, visitors could explore folk games and publications from the Ferencz Rákóczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian College of Higher Education. Film enthusiasts were not forgotten either. In the visitor center’s cinema, films and documentaries related to Transcarpathia were shown. Those who were hungry were warmly welcomed with a bowl of cabbage and bean soup, which was served with brandy by the PCS staff. The soup was prepared by the chefs of the Kiscsikó restaurant.

The Transcarpathian team spent a successful and eventful 4 days in Ópusztaszer, where those interested in our region also enriched their knowledge. The event took place from August 17 to 20.
